If you can’t make up your mind, order a flight and try four different beers at once. Lunchtime fare includes standard items like fish tacos, nachos, and artisan pizzas. You come to Maui Brew Co. for the beer, the ambiance, and the live music, not the food.
4. TAKE A WHALE-WATCHING TRIP
The best time to visit Maui is from December to April when whale season is in full swing, and you can get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures. Taking a whale-watching tour is a great option for this.
Tours to see the humpback whales are offered by a number of different boat companies. Snacks and an open bar are provided during the two-hour tours. The guides are extremely informed, and you’ll pick up a lot of interesting trivia about the Pacific humpback whales that migrate from Alaska to Hawaii every year.

If you happen to be visiting Maui during whale season, this is a great spot to watch for humpback whales breaching. Kaho’olawe, Lanai, and West Maui will all be visible, as this is not an unusual occurrence.
7. PROCEED TO MAKENA MAUI
Makena is the southernmost area of South Maui, located 10 minutes past Kihei, and it is home to my favorite beach on Maui, Big Beach. After Big Beach, the road begins to wind closer to the water. Along the winding road, you’ll see palm trees and jagged volcanic rocks protruding from the water.
Locals will be out on the water fishing, and you’ll soon be driving through lava fields. As with the rest of the Big Island, lava fields can be seen in every direction from here.

Similarly, the town of Kahana, about 20 minutes north of Lahaina, is home to a Miso Phat for those staying on West Maui. There is limited seating at both establishments due to their small size, but the wait will be well worth it.
10. Visit Keawakapu Beach for a breathtaking sunset
Keawakapu Beach, with its fine, golden sand, can be found at the very end of South Kihei Road. Keawakapu Beach is a bit of a secret compared to the other Kihei beaches. There is plenty of space for everyone to spread out here because it rarely gets too crowded. Keep in mind that there are no commodes or sinks here, but there is a shower for cleaning up.
Keawakapu Beach is popular for sunbathing and snorkeling alike. The water is shallow and calm close to shore, but if you swim out past the break, you’ll have a much richer experience. Keep an eye out for the numerous sea turtles that inhabit this area as you float around.
