Sutapa Sikdar, Irrfan Khan’s widow, has spoken out about her grief. Sutapa and Irrfan met while studying at the National School of Drama. After battling neuroendocrine tumors, Irrfan died on April 29, 2020.

Sutapa told Film Companion that Irrfan was curious about death and the afterlife in an emotional conversation. After his cancer diagnosis, he thought he had attracted death, she added.

“He was curious about death since we met. I’m Hindu, he’s Muslim. Irrfan made my kundali. He was interested in astrology for the next life, not his career. It fascinated him. He asked London-based Anup if he was attracting death. Sutapa stated death had become his playmate.

Irrfan Khan (Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan; 7 January 1967 – 29 April 2020) was an Indian actor who appeared in British and American films. One of the best actors in global cinema, Khan won a National Film Award, an Asian Film Award, and six Filmfare Awards over 30 years. He received the Padma Shri in 2011. He received the 2021 Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously.

Irrfan Khan’s Early Life And Education

Khan was born in Tonk, Rajasthan, to Pathan Muslims on January 7, 1967. Khan’s parents, Saeeda Begum Khan and Yaseen Ali Khan had a tyre business. He was raised in Tonk and Jaipur. Irrfan was good at cricket and was picked to participate in the CK Nayudu Trophy for under-23 players, a stepping stone to first-class cricket in India. Travel costs prevented him from attending.

His maternal uncle, a Jodhpur actor, inspired him to act. Khan met famous theater artists in Jaipur and performed multiple times. Khan studied acting at the National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi in 1984 after earning his MA in Jaipur.

He became famous in Hindi movies and thereafter in the West. Irrfan considered abandoning Hollywood in the 1990s. “The Warrior” by British filmmaker Asif Kapadia provided him with a career boost and opened new doors. No turning back.

The Rajasthan state government named him a brand ambassador for “Resurgent Rajasthan” in September 2015. The light and sound spectacle at the Indian Army war memorial on Vidhan Sabha Road in Jaipur featured his voice. The exhibition showed the Rajasthani troops’ bravery and military victories.
