Finally, Stranger Things Day is over. To celebrate, Netflix released limited-edition goods and, of course, teased what’s to come for the Hawkins family on social media.
That’s right, yes. The first scene of Stranger Things season 5 was posted on the writers’ X (formerly Twitter) account, so we now know how the new season will begin.
Stranger Things Season 5 Potential Release Date
Stranger Things season 5 might come out as early as 2024. We may still have to wait, though. Production was supposed to start in June 2023, but it was put on hold because of the WGA strike. The other strike is over, but the SAG-AFTRA strike is still going on.
Also, we don’t know how the new season will be released yet. The whole runs of seasons 1–3 were released all at once, but season 4 was split into two volumes, with volume 1 having seven episodes and volume 2 having two.
We won’t know for sure if season 5 will keep this new split plan. The Stranger Things play The First Shadow will be the first to come to London. Netflix just recently shared a new behind-the-scenes look at the show. Take a look below:
How Many Episodes Are in Stranger Things Season 5?
At this point, we don’t know how many episodes will be in Stranger Things season 5. One thing is for sure: season 5 will be just as popular as Season 4, which broke records for viewers even though some episodes were very long—episode 9 was an unbelievable two hours and 19 minutes long.
This time, though, the shows won’t be as long, except for the big finale, which will be “pretty massive.” “We were a little surprised that the runtimes were so long.” Matt Duffer told The Hollywood Reporter, “Ross and I have been trying to figure out how they got that long when the plots aren’t even that long.”
“We’ve noticed that the way we space out descriptions in our work has changed a bit.” I believe that made it longer. We also had a second story with Hopper in Russia. It’s a pretty full season. Before we started editing, we weren’t sure if they were that long.

What Will Stranger Things Season 5 Be About?
We still don’t know what season 5 will be about, but the creators and cast have given us hints in talks. When season 5 was first revealed, the Duffer Brothers said in a statement that the “complete story arc” had been planned out seven years before season 5. Season 5 will be the end of that plan.
After talking to SFX, they said that the finish still fits “the rough sketch” they made, but it’s “more interesting and exciting than [them] and Ross originally envisioned.”
“We know how it ends,” they said. Though it’s possible that it will change, I don’t think it will because the finish sounds right and always has. It also feels like it was bound to happen. Then when you realize it, you think, “Oh yeah, that’s exactly what it has to be.”
We also know that there will probably be a time jump in season 5. Ross Duffer told TVLine, “I’m sure we will do a time shift.” We would have liked to film seasons 4 and 5 right after each other, but that wasn’t possible. All of these things will be talked about with our writers when we open the room.
