One of the most famous modern isekai franchises, The Eminence in Shadow, began as a popular light novel series, as many do in this genre. Japanese anime fans got to see the first episode of The Eminence in Shadow in October 2022. HIDIVE quickly licensed the show for streaming around the world. In February 2023, a second season was revealed, along with a teaser trailer.
It’s a Japanese light novel series written by Daisuke Aizawa and drawn by Tōzai. There is also a manga version by Anri Sakano that was released by Kadokawa. By not taking itself too seriously, the show adds something new to the already crowded isekai genre.

The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Story Details
Cid and the Shadow Garden will go to the Lawless City in Season 2 of The Eminence in Shadow. The following is a summary of the third book in the light novel series, which will be turned into Season 2 of the anime:
The Blood Queen, a Progenitor Vampire, has been sleeping in her coffin deep in the Lawless City for many moons. If Cid is good at getting into trouble, he should know not to go after her…but he can’t wait to join in the fun. It’s time for him to stop being himself during the day and become Shadow!
But it looks like he’s not the only one who thinks this way. Soon, he finds that Crimson the vampire, Juggernaut the Tyrant, and Yukime the Spirit Fox, the three leaders of the Lawless City, are all after him. Things get even more complicated when the Shadow Garden shows up just as the Blood Queen’s waking time is getting closer.
In Season 1, Kageno Minoru is a Japanese high school student who is crazy about becoming a superhero. He dies in a car crash and comes back to life as Cid Kageno in a magical world.
Cid became the strongest person in the world by using the skills he learned in his past life, but he tries to hide it by appearing normal. While this is going on, Cid tells some made-up stories about the evil Cult of Diabolos to free some Elf women from a curse that was making them look ugly and trains them to be deadly fighters.
The Cut is real, but Cid doesn’t know it because he has big dreams of playing the Eminence in Shadow. When the girls go on their own quest to destroy it and form the Shadow Garden group, he thinks they are just tired of his silly games.
Cid basically plays a big game for the rest of the series, switching between his best “mob” character impressions and the amazing ones of Shadow, his Eminence in Shadow alter-ego. At the same time, the Shadow Garden is trying to get rid of the Cult of Diabolos. Cid gets caught up in the fight, but he doesn’t really know what’s going on.
