At the moment, Kumaon University and H.N.B.Garhwal University are the only two universities that offer general higher education. They have 5 university campuses and 113 affiliated degree and post-graduate schools, some of which are supported by the government and some of which are not.

There are 71 colleges that are connected to Sridev Suman University and 42 schools that are connected to Kumaon University.
